All applicants ought to know these basics about ETA before applying or interviewing for any role.

ETA, founded in 1856 and now a cornerstone of the Swatch Group, is one of Swiss watchmaking’s most influential movement makers, supplying calibres that have powered generations of the industry.
For job seekers, ETA stands out as a behind-the-scenes engineering brand where careers often center on industrialization, micro-mechanics, precision manufacturing, and large-scale movement production rather than consumer-facing retail.
ETA has historically supplied movements to numerous watch houses across Swiss horology, so working there offers exposure to the technical backbone that supports brands ranging from accessible names to prestige players like Longines, Hamilton, and Tissot.
The company is especially known for robust, widely used automatic and quartz calibres such as the 2824, Valjoux 7750, and Powermatic-related architectures, making it a compelling employer for candidates interested in movements with real industry reach.
Because ETA operates at the intersection of R&D, component manufacturing, and industrial assembly, employees often gain experience that is highly transferable across adjacent specialist firms like Nivarox, Comadur, and Universo.
ETA’s strategic importance within Swiss watchmaking means its work is closely tied to questions of supply, innovation, and regulation, giving careers there an unusually broad view of how the modern watch industry functions.
