All applicants ought to know these basics about IWC before applying or interviewing for any role.

IWC, founded in Schaffhausen in 1868 by American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones, is unusual in Swiss watchmaking for pairing Swiss craftsmanship with an industrial, engineering-led identity.
The brand is especially known for purpose-built families such as the Pilot’s Watches and Portugieser, making it attractive to candidates interested in product storytelling rooted in technical heritage rather than pure ornament.
Since joining Richemont in 2000, IWC has operated within one of luxury’s most influential groups, creating career pathways that can intersect with maisons like Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier, and Vacheron Constantin.
IWC has long invested in in-house movement development and highly engineered complications, so many roles sit at the intersection of traditional horology, materials science, and modern manufacturing.
Schaffhausen’s location on the Rhine, away from many traditional watchmaking hubs, helped shape IWC’s distinct culture of precision engineering and relative independence within Swiss haute horlogerie.
For job seekers, IWC’s brand DNA centers on clean design, performance, and sustainability-minded innovation, offering a different creative environment from more overtly fashion-driven luxury houses.
