The Cutting Room Supervisor reports to the Production Manager, follows cutting priorities, and directs the Cutting Department’s daily work, including cutting and spreading operations. This full-time role oversees schedules, fabric quality, cutting records, and coordination with Marker Making, Product Engineering, the Warehouse, and Production.
Role & Responsibilities
- Monitor the cutting schedule and plan production according to required dates and fabric availability.
- Supervise Cutting Room Operators and serve as their primary point of contact.
- Work with Marker Making to ensure marker accuracy and efficiency.
- Spread and cut fabric lays according to markers provided by Marker Making and cutting orders.
- Cut samples and fulfil special cutting requests from Product Engineering or management.
- Verify the quality of issued fabric and notify Quality Assurance of any issues.
- Respond to inquiries from the Production Manager.
- Identify ongoing opportunities to increase efficiency.
- Maintain daily spreading and cutting records.
- Notify the Warehouse in a timely manner of purchase orders needed for fabric order picking.
- Communicate daily cutting requirements to cutting and spreading operators based on marker guidelines and cutting specifications.
- Provide daily direction and supervision to the Cutting Department, following cutting priorities set by the Production Manager.
Qualifications
- Diploma or equivalent in garment manufacturing technology, or related experience.
- At least 5–7 years of experience managing a cutting department in an apparel manufacturing environment.
- Strong planning and organizational skills to maintain a constant workflow and achieve consistent production results.
- Effective interpersonal skills to manage and motivate workers.
- Familiarity with a range of cutting equipment, including manual and automated spreading equipment and manual and computerized cutting equipment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong initiative to consistently meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. on a daily or regular basis.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a noisy factory environment.
- Openness to challenges and change.
