With deep roots in southern Africa and a global presence, the group brings together scientific knowledge, technical precision and creative craftsmanship. Its multidisciplinary environment connects the origins of natural diamonds with their transformation into exceptional creations. Professionals join a business where heritage meets innovation, and where provenance, responsible practices and evolving consumer expectations are central to the future of the diamond industry.

De Beers seeks a detail-oriented, proactive GroundProbe Radar Technician / Geotechnical Engineer to operate, maintain and analyze slope-stability radar systems for real-time hazard detection, while providing geotechnical support to the mine team. • Monitor real-time radar data, deformation trends and atmospheric corrections using GroundProbe’s SSR-Monitor IQ software.
  • Establish, optimize and manage critical displacement radar alarm thresholds to safeguard personnel and equipment.
  • Perform routine diagnostic checks, hardware troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on radar units in the field.
  • Generate daily and weekly slope performance reports, immediately communicating critical displacement trends to operations management.
  • Install and manage piezometers and geothermal temperature cables.
  • Conduct daily visual and drone inspections, mapping structural features and identifying wall instability.
  • Support rockfall assessments and slope stability modelling.
  • Regularly inspect open-pit operations to ensure design parameters are met and recommend measures to the operations team to maintain high-wall safety.
  • Provide geotechnical input on drill and blast plans and short- to mid-term mine planning.

Qualifications

  • Legally permitted to work in Canada.
  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Proven proficiency with GroundProbe SSR hardware and SSR Monitor IQ software highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software: Deswik, Rocscience and Rimining.
  • Knowledge of identifying geotechnical and hydrogeological risks.
  • Experience with geotechnical modelling.
  • Ability to manage and communicate effectively in a high-pressure, dynamic geotechnical environment, with safety as the priority.
