A background check verifies selected information about a candidate before employment.
A request for employment history and a request for a criminal record check serve different purposes. The RCMP describes a criminal record check as a way to determine whether a person has been charged with or convicted of a crime. A vacancy can use background check more broadly without specifying a police process. Look for the records named by the employer and the stage at which it asks the candidate to provide them.

Moncler’s Toronto retail supervisor posting said that final candidates would undergo a background check and asked for an accurate employment history. The employer identified when screening would happen. It did not specify a police check or list the records it would request. Search local jobs for “retail supervisor”.
