A bench jeweller fabricates, repairs or alters pieces of jewellery at a workbench.
Work at the bench can include soldering a join, altering a ring or setting a stone. An alteration starts with the work requested and the condition of the piece. Repair skills and sales experience can appear in the same workshop or shop, but they describe different responsibilities. GIA’s Graduate Jeweler diploma teaches jewellery fabrication and repair. Its US program title retains its own spelling when cited.
