Clienteling is the practice of using knowledge of an individual customer to offer personal service over time.
A customer profile can record a preferred size, a piece tried on or an appointment still to arrange. If an advisor learns that a customer wants a particular coat, an invitation to try it when it arrives gives the follow-up a specific purpose. A list of contacts alone tells an advisor little about what would make the next visit worthwhile.
