A co-op placement is a period of work completed as part of a co-operative education program.
A co-op student combines academic study with work experience that their school recognizes as part of the program. At the University of Waterloo, for example, a standard work term is paid and supervised, and the student has to meet the school’s requirements for credit. Other programs set their own conditions. An internship title by itself gives a student no assurance that the position meets their program’s rules.

Harry Rosen’s Toronto digital marketing and brand and events internships asked for enrolment in a program with a formal internship or co-op requirement. Here co-op describes the student’s program. In a brand marketing budget the same abbreviation can refer to a commercial arrangement. Search local jobs for “intern”.
