Involving people from different functions, such as design, finance and retail.
Cross-functional work brings together people whose responsibilities sit in different departments. A shared project may need commercial decisions from sales, cost information from finance and delivery input from operations. Participants contribute their own expertise, coordinate dependencies and agree how decisions and tasks will move forward. The group can be temporary or permanent, and members may continue to belong to their usual departmental teams. The useful distinction is between collaboration across functions and work within one function: several colleagues working together are cross-functional only when their responsibilities span different areas of the business.
