Luxury Lexicon A definition

Eco-friendly

A broad claim that a product or activity causes less environmental harm.

Eco-friendly is a broad environmental claim whose meaning depends on the explanation accompanying it. Assessing such language involves identifying the benefit being claimed, the product or activity covered and the evidence supporting the message. A statement about one feature can leave a much wider impression about the whole product. That distinction matters when reviewing marketing copy: a description of a particular material or process does not by itself explain the overall environmental impact. Images and surrounding wording also contribute to what a customer understands.

Sustainability, marketing and product roles may meet this claim. Because it is so broad, a job that handles it may also involve checking the evidence behind it, and it is worth asking how such claims are reviewed. Search local jobs for “sustainability”.
