Luxury Lexicon A definition

Long-term disability insurance

Long-term disability insurance replaces part of a person’s income when illness or injury prevents them from working and the policy’s conditions are met.

A group benefits list may mention long-term disability coverage beside medical, dental or life insurance. Each does a different job. Medical coverage can help with treatment expenses, while disability insurance is concerned with income during an eligible absence from work. The plan sets out the waiting period, the definition of disability and how benefits are calculated. An advertisement naming coverage does not establish how soon a payment would start, how much it would be or how long it would continue.

Chanel included long-term disability coverage in a Toronto alterations lead’s benefits, alongside life insurance and insurance for accidental death or dismemberment. The posting identifies which protections the employer offers. Someone comparing offers would need the plan booklet to find the waiting period and benefit amount.
