A spreadsheet tool that groups and summarizes data so it can be compared by category.
A pivot table creates a summary from a larger set of records by arranging selected fields into categories and calculating values for each group. Changing the fields or filters lets the user compare the same underlying information in different ways without rewriting the source records. For example, sales records can be grouped by product category and period to compare totals. The summary depends on the data included in its source and may need refreshing when that data changes. A pivot chart adds a visual representation of the summarized results.

Rimowa’s junior accountant in Cambridge, Ontario, would reconcile bank and accounting records and support the month-end close. The posting named PivotTables among the Excel skills it expected. Summarizing transactions by account would be one application of that skill. The employer left the precise spreadsheet layout to the team. Search local jobs for “accountant”.
