Point of sale: where a purchase is completed, and the equipment or software used to take payment and record the sale.
A POS system combines the tools used to complete a purchase with the software that records it. When a sale is processed, the system captures transaction details and may also update stock records and customer information. These records can then feed sales reporting and other retail operations. The payment terminal is only one possible component of the system. Taking a card payment and maintaining an accurate sales record are connected tasks, but they are not identical. In a retail role, the relevant experience depends on which transactions and records the employee handles.

At Canada Goose in Toronto, the Retail Systems Product Owner role owned Shopify POS, translated store and cross-functional needs into a prioritized backlog, and led release testing and rollout. This placed POS experience within responsibility for the retail system itself, extending beyond the transaction handling expected of a cashier. Search local jobs for “systems”.
