Luxury Lexicon A definition

Sell-through

Sell-through measures how much of the stock available over a specified period has sold.

Suppose a boutique starts with ten identical bags, receives no more, and sells six during the month. With four left, six of the ten available bags have sold through, or 60%. Restocking, returns and transfers make real reports more complicated. Shopify’s inventory report divides units sold by units sold plus ending inventory. When comparing two reports, check the period and stock basis before drawing a conclusion.

In job listings

In Toronto, a Christian Dior visual merchandising specialist posting used sell thru when describing how to adjust displays for launches. In Vancouver, Diptyque linked sell-through to inventory and product launches in a store manager role. The figure can therefore guide a change on the sales floor as well as a stock decision.
