UAT

User acceptance testing: checking with intended users that a system meets agreed business needs before release.

UAT checks a system from the perspective of the people who will use it. Intended users work through realistic scenarios and compare the results with agreed business needs before the system is released into production. The findings help establish whether the solution is acceptable for its intended work. This differs from testing an individual software component or checking only that separate systems connect. A technically functioning system can still fail to support a required business process. UAT therefore focuses attention on user tasks and their outcomes, providing evidence for the decision to accept the solution.

Canada Goose made its Toronto retail systems product owner responsible for acceptance testing when the point-of-sale system changed. The owner helped set the test cases, arranged for store and other teams to try them and controlled the approval needed before release. That places UAT between development and the introduction of a change in stores. Search local jobs for “uat”.
