The average number of items sold in each transaction.
Units per transaction is calculated by dividing the number of items sold by the number of completed sales transactions over the same period. Selling 150 items in 100 transactions gives a UPT of 1.5. The measure describes the average number of items in a purchase, so one transaction containing several products still counts as one transaction in the denominator. It differs from conversion rate, which measures how many visitors make a purchase, and from average transaction value, which measures money spent. Retailers can track UPT over time or within staff sales reports.
