Velour is a fabric with a soft, raised pile that gives its face a plush appearance.
In one knitted construction, loops rise from the ground fabric and are then cut and sheared to form an even face. This distinction matters when examining a swatch. The face describes the pile, the back shows the underlying construction, and the fibre label states what the yarns contain. Velour can be made from a blend. Its soft surface alone tells a developer neither the fibre proportions nor how much stretch a finished garment will have.

Velour may appear on a label or in a product description, usually for casual wear and loungewear. A sales advisor should be able to tell it from velvet, and from terry when a client asks about feel and care. Search local jobs for “fabric”.
