Vermeil is silver coated with gold.
For a Canadian vermeil quality mark, Competition Bureau guidance specifies silver of at least .925 quality and gold plating of at least 10K. The two figures describe different parts of the article. The first concerns the underlying silver, while the second concerns the proportion of gold in the plating. Neither figure by itself gives the thickness of the coating. A gold-coloured surface alone gives a jeweller too little information to identify an article as vermeil.

Vermeil is a matter of product knowledge in jewellery sales. An advisor may need to explain to a client what it is made of, how it wears and how it differs from solid gold or from gold plating over another metal. Search local jobs for “jewellery”.
