Vicuña is the fine fibre obtained from the fleece of a wild Andean camelid and the name used for cloth made from it.
The animal and the textile have the same name. The wild animal lives on the high Andean plateau and its fleece contains exceptionally fine undercoat fibres. The materials label identifies the fibre. Establishing the origin of a particular piece and its cross-border documentation takes more information. The species is covered by international wildlife trade controls. A customs role may therefore require the candidate to identify the species, origin and product involved before assessing a shipment.

Few roles deal with vicuña directly. Where they do, in luxury textiles, sourcing or compliance, the rules on trade in the fibre and its rarity may matter as much as its softness. Search local jobs for “fabric”.
