Voile is a lightweight, open-textured cloth made with fine yarns.
In a classic plain-weave voile, compact, twisted yarns interlace to make a light cloth with space between the threads. Cotton is a common fibre choice. A fibre name alone does not describe the openness or the amount of light the cloth lets through. For a garment, the important distinctions include whether voile forms the outer fabric or a lining, how transparent it is, and whether the pattern is woven into the cloth.

Voile comes up in shirting, summer dresses and home textiles more than in vacancies. A fabric developer may compare it with batiste, and an alteration specialist will need care with such a light, open cloth. Search local jobs for “fabric”.
